Great health is one of the key ingredients to enjoying financial independence and early retirement. We have been slowly, but surely, switching to safer non-toxic products after learning about the disturbing chemicals allowed in most personal care items. It takes a lot of research to find the products of good quality. We’ve already spent a good amount of time doing the research and want to share with you, so that you could benefit as well.
Be sure to check out the Environmental Working Group’s website which has a Skin Deep Database that tests and scores the toxicity of most personal products.
For full disclosure, we get a small commission from Amazon if you buy from the links. This doesn’t affect your cost. Rest assured, we will never recommend a product that we don’t use or believe in.
Our goal is for all of us to live healthier lifestyles. We also want to promote the companies that are providing better products and the best way to encourage production of better American products is by voting with our dollars. Here are the products that we recommend. Cheers to your health! Love, Tatiana
Beauty
I started reading a really informative book called No More Dirty Looks on the topic of toxic chemicals in beauty products. It’s scary what the chemicals industry gets away with putting into our mascaras, nail polish, and other beauty products in the U.S. Say good-bye to eye-watering toxic nail salons! It’s simply not worth it. Here are my favorite new discoveries.

Organic Infused Hydra Gloss
Afterglow cosmetics is one of the best non-toxic brands I found during my research and so far I tried two products: the Lip Gloss and the Organic Infused Foundation with the kabuki brush. Love them! The lip gloss comes on well and doesn’t have a yucky sticky feeling like my old toxic ones and the foundation is made of such light powder, it doesn’t look or feel as if I have anything on. It’s not a cheap brand, but worth every penny!
Ecco Bella FlowerColor Mascara
After much research and comparing reviews and cost, I chose to try the Ecco Bella Flowerpower mascara. I liked it, as it doesn’t clump, and comes on easily. It doesn’t give me as much volume as the toxic one did, but it’s a trade off I am willing to make.
Suncoat Water-based Nail Polish
I decided to try the Suncoat brand from Canada, and really like their peelable watercolor nail polish. They have a variety of colors and are easy to peel off when you want to remove them. A few tips: you can’t wet the polish for 12 hours after applying, so I do my mani/pedi at night. It dries fairly quickly and I don’t wet my hands or feet until my morning shower, so it works well.
This polish comes on really lightly, so you may need two or three coats to even get halfway to the color you see in the bottle. I am really glad I tried this option, as I don’t have to worry about the harmful chemicals in the typical nail polish and I don’t need any toxic removals either. Just pick a corner and pull. At most, you may need a little wooden nail care stick to help the process along.
